City of Fresno Gears up for Solar

Fresno, CA, June 23, 2006 —Press Release-

A contingent of Fresno city building inspectors gathered at a home in Northeast Fresno to study solar electric systems and how to properly inspect them. The home was in the process of having a photovoltaic system installed which made it an ideal example. The explosion of solar installations has kept building departments across the Valley busy and because the technology is relatively new, training by a solar contractor was requested by the city.

Fresno must lead the way in solar power

It is not a question of if, but when solar power becomes a mainstream and competitive energy resource in California. By adopting the right policies today, we can have a great deal of control over how rapidly solar power becomes a commonplace, cost-effective and common-sense solution to many of the threats facing the central San Joaquin Valley including air pollution, global warming and rising energy costs.

To help realize the great promise of solar power, this summer we will ask the City Council to adopt the "Fresno Renewable Energy Rebate Initiative," which would provide up to $2,000 in direct rebates and savings for homeowners who use solar energy.

New construction incorporating solar panels, more funding for alternative energy uses in the Valley and even a delegation of Valley leaders meeting with solar-power manufacturers means that the Valley could be on its way to leading the state in solar energy - if, some say, key objectives are accomplished first.
